Blog and magazine website templates

These templates are built for reading: a home page that lists posts, category and tag pages, a single-post layout that is comfortable to read, and the smaller pages a publication needs, such as an author page and search results. They are free HTML designs, which suits a personal blog you write by hand or generate with a static-site tool, and they are also a quick way to design a WordPress or Ghost theme before building it.

Four blog designs and one portfolio

Blogodown is the most complete magazine structure here: five home page styles, three header styles, category, tag, archive and author pages, search results, and about and contact pages. It was rebuilt in 2026.

Blogscloud, also rebuilt in 2026, gives you many ways to list posts (grid, large, masonry, mixed, with a left or right sidebar, or a carousel), plus author, category, tag and search pages.

Weblogg is the original design, still on jQuery, with four home page styles, a lifestyle section, blog layouts in two and three columns and a coming soon page. Mexty, also an original, is the smallest: a home page, a post page and a contact page.

If the blog is part of a personal site, Falix Ford is a developer portfolio with a blog, and its WordPress version lets you write posts from the dashboard instead of editing HTML.

A static blog or a CMS?

If you publish a few times a month, a static blog is fine: copy the single-post file, write your post, and link it from the home and category pages. If you publish every week or have several writers, keep the template as the design and move to a CMS; the post, category and sidebar markup maps neatly onto WordPress template files or a static-site generator’s layouts.

Whichever you choose, use real headings inside posts (h2, h3) rather than bold text, keep paragraphs short, and resist widening the post column. A line of about sixty-five characters is what makes long articles easy to read, and these layouts are already set up that way.

Blog — frequently asked questions

Are the blog templates free?

Yes. Start your blog or magazine on any of them for free. They carry a small credit link in the footer, which you can keep, remove once for a small fee, or remove with Pro.

Can I use one of these as a WordPress theme?

As the design, yes: the post, category and sidebar markup maps onto WordPress template files, but the HTML doesn't install as a theme by itself. Falix Ford is the one that also comes as a ready WordPress theme.

Which blog template has the most layouts?

Blogodown, with five home page styles, three headers and every listing page a magazine needs. Blogscloud has the most ways to display a list of posts.

How do I add a new post?

Copy the single-post HTML file, change the title, date and text, save it under a new name, and add a card linking to it on the home and category pages.
